Moodscapes
With no place left to roam, raw emotions, memories, feelings, and life experiences collide in the series entitled "Moodscapes". These paintings represent the landscape of mind, body and spirit through Pennington's use of rich layers, mixed media, colors, textures, and use of personal symbolism.

"Strawberry Skies", 30" x 30" Acrylic, Glitter, and Oil on Board Copyright © 2012 by Ginger Pennington A study of a stunning sunset in Virginia; the title inspired by an awesome song by Laurel Halo. This is the fifth painting from a series of six where my focus was to celebrate the beauty of life, nature, and the supernatural. I love taking photographs of the sky and was lucky to capture a radiant sunset one evening in Virginia.
"The Space Between" Mixed Media on Board 30"x 30" Copyright © 2012 by Ginger Pennington A textural celebration of color and sparkles reminiscent of the best ice cream sundae one might imagine; I used only the primary colors of paint alongside glitter, ink, foam, jewelry, sand, and Swarovski crystals.
"Reflections" Mixed Media on Board 30" x 30" Copyright © 2012 by Ginger Pennington Inspired by the way light hits the surface of water, this painting evolved into a fun explosion of sea life from found objects and materials where the light is normally reflected. This painting features oyster shells, mother of pearl, bits of jewelry, Swarovski crystals, glitter, sand, foam, puff balls, and other neat sparkling objects that come together to form an area of relief sculpture on the surface.
"Water and Sky", 24" x 32", © 2011 by Ginger Pennington It's finally finished! I couldn't let this one rest; it's been changing since 2007! This painting is from my "Moodscapes" series featuring the theme of abstracted sea oats. The design elements remind me of both water, sky, and Japanese art. This painting became a materials experiment that underwent changes over a period of four years as I discovered the various time and light stability levels of inks and resins.
"Turquoise Beach" Acrylic and oil paints, ink, swarovski crystals, glitter, foam relief, and resin on board 9" x 15" Inspired by a dream in 2011 where I was shown it was not my time...that I was not finished writing my story! "Strengthen Your Bones" Acrylic paint, ink, mica, foam relief, and resin on board 10" x 6 1/4" At a time when I had no strength left and cried out to God, this was sung to me in a dream in 2012 and references the following: “Is this not the fast that I have chosen: To loose the bonds of wickedness, To undo the heavy burdens, To let the oppressed go free, And that you break every yoke? Is it not to share your bread with the hungry, And that you bring to your house the poor who are cast out..."
"Mercurial", 20"x16", © 2008 A magenta universe of iridescent sea oats and playful hologram picnic stickers, textured with resin, ink, and gem-like stickers. Sold.
"Eyes and Lips Say Enough", 20"x16", © 2008
"Distraction", 16" x 12", © 2010 by Ginger Pennington SOLD. This painting I began a few weeks after September 11, 2001 as a way to distract myself from the trauma of what I saw. Lines woven everywhere in organic and geometric shapes that for years I did not know what else to do with; in 2010 I finally saw a map of NYC emerge from the chaos. So, I finished the piece by adding mini figurines of the Empire State building, original Twin Towers, and the Statue of Liberty, and Swarovski crystals.
"No, Thank You!", 24"x18", © 2008 Part of my series "Dootsrednusim", in which I was expressing how misunderstood I felt at the time. I was also trying to work out my hatred for the color red by using bright red in many of my works during this series. Sold.
"After the Runway", 20"x16", © 2008 Part of my series "Dootsrednusim", in which I was expressing how misunderstood I felt at the time. The painting "After The Runway" is a great compliment to the painting "Before the Opening". I was also exploring my portrait paintings skills in realism and abstraction, and trying to work out my hatred for the color red by using bright red in many of my works during this series.
"Before the Opening", 16"x20", © 2008 Part of my series "Dootsrednusim", in which I was expressing how misunderstood I felt at the time. The painting "Before the Opening" is a great compliment to the painting "After the Runway". "Midnight", Acrylic on Canvas 24" x 18", Copyright © 2008 by Ginger Pennington. SOLD.
"Joan of Arc", "16"x20", © 2010 A representation of Joan of Arc as she receives the messages from angels about how to save France; painted using rich green and copper paints and embellished with teal glitter, resin, and ink. SOLD.
24"x 18", © 2008, SOLD. Part of my "Wild Sea Oats" theme in which the imagery and symbolism of abstracted golden sea oats appear in many of my paintings, this is a story of the martyr Joan of Arc. It depicts the moment she heard from the Angels about how she would save her beloved homeland. The symbolism of Wild Sea oats evoke the power of illusion. The visage of this seemingly wispy yet lovely plant (which is native to many beach and coast areas) betrays its actual power and strength.
"Summer Things", 24" x 18", © 2006 by Ginger Pennington The painting "Summer Things" is an abstract representation of the beauty and joy of being among nature at the river and the beach. Here you see elements of tall sea oats, waving in the breeze; I am always inspired by their wisps blowing in the wind. Their visible structure defies their strong and deep root system, as they actually help hold together the coastline by protecting the land from erosion by water. SOLD
"Ethereality", 24"x32", © 2007 A universe depicted though black shapes resembling feathers among magenta elements and gold sea oats; textured with sand, resin, and ink. Sold.
"Clouds Are Falling", 32" x 24" © 2007 by Ginger Pennington A textural depiction of clouds falling...rain...something about to burst or emerge forth.
"Future Things", 12"x14",© 2006 A swirling blue universe of future gold sea oat themed paintings, textured with sand, resin, and ink. Sold.
"Lift", 14"x 12",© 2006 A red atmosphere hosting golden sea oats and a forlorn lady in need of a spiritual lift (instead of her recent face lift); textured with sand, resin, and ink. Sold.
"Bird Picnic", 23"x22 3/4" Copyright © 2008 by Ginger Pennington. The painting "Bird Picnic" is an abstract representation of the beauty and joy of being alive. Among the scene is the infinity symbol, mountains, a valley, a hand woven picnic basket from brass wire, and imagery of pink birds dancing among a playful picnic as depicted by children's holographic food and drink stickers. It's a symbol of how even the birds are cared for and fed by their creator among life's ups and downs.
